Premium IOLs are an exciting option for a patient considering cataract surgery. Premium IOLs are elective and are not covered by insurance, as they are an option for patients who want reduced dependence from glasses after surgery. Medicare and most health insurance companies cover conventional, or monofocal, IOLs. However, for those who desire reduced dependence on glasses, premium IOLs may be the best option. At McCormick Eye Center, serving the Phoenix area, including Scottsdale and Fountain Hills, patient financing, interest-free for up to 12 months, is available for qualified patients. Usually, Medicare and most health insurance companies cover the other costs of cataract surgery, less your deductible if it hasn't been met, and/or any coinsurance or copay. Ask you insurance provider or call our office if your insurance provider is unable to tell you what your responsibilities are.
Emerging research suggests family genetics may put you at increased risk for glaucoma. There are rarely any symptoms in the earlier stages of this eye disease, so periodic evaluations are the most effective way to catch glaucoma in its early stages, when treatment can either slow or prevent the progression.
The effects of wearing contact lenses “all the time” is difficult to evaluate without further information. However, we do encounter patients who wear their contact lenses inappropriately.
The best way to care for your eyes if you wear contacts is to wear and clean the lenses as directed by your doctor. Schedule an annual exam to evaluate the health of your eyes and determine whether any changes should be made in the contact lens prescription or the type or brand of contacts most suitable for your eyes. Should you experience light sensitivity, or any pain or discomfort while wearing your contacts, remove them and wear your glasses. Be sure to make an appointment to be seen as soon as possible.
Many patients, especially here in Arizona, have chronic dry eye. New treatments and techniques are available to relieve this condition. Call our Scottsdale office and schedule an exam so that we can provide you with the appropriate information and treatment.
Current research suggests that family genetics may place an individual at increased risk for macular degeneration. Periodic evaluation is the most effective way to diagnose macular degeneration in its early stages. Daily behaviors that may help prevent or slow the progression of macular degeneration include following and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, eating green leafy vegetables, and not smoking. There are some over-the-counter vitamins specifically targeted toward maintaining healthy vision. Studies suggest that these may be helpful in preserving good vision. However, patients should ask Dr. Johnson questions about eye health supplements and the benefits of including them in a daily health regimen.
Call our laser vision correction practice in Scottsdale, convenient to Fountain Hills and Phoenix, to schedule a free consultation. You'll view an educational presentation and have some preliminary measurements taken to determine whether you are a good candidate for LASIK or PRK. Most importantly, you'll meet with Dr. Johnson. He'll answer your questions about the procedure, including the advantages and any potential complications. Dr. Johnson wants you to be a knowledgeable and satisfied patient.
Both LASIK and PRK laser vision correction procedures are elective, which means patients do not absolutely need the surgery. For this reason, most insurance companies do not cover the cost. We offer interest-free financing, for up to 12 months, through CareCredit®. You can apply directly online or we can assist you with the process in our office, during your laser vision correction consultation.
Your procedure will be performed at an outpatient location just off the 101 and Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard. Laser vision correction patients from Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, Phoenix, and surrounding Arizona communities find the location easily accessible. You will be asked to arrive one hour before the procedure. Although the laser does its work in a minute or two, you may be in the laser suite for 15 to 20 minutes, depending on whether you are having the procedure done on one or both eyes.
The goal with each laser vision correction procedure is to reduce or even eliminate the patient's dependence on corrective lenses. With laser vision correction, most patients see well enough to pass a driver's test without corrective lenses.
While RK patients present unique challenges, many can benefit from LASIK or PRK to achieve improved vision. Schedule a free consultation to determine whether you are a good candidate for laser vision correction. We will examine the health of your eyes and you will have an opportunity to meet with Dr. Johnson to further discuss whether LASIK or another refractive procedure is an appropriate for you.
